gingivitis during pregnancy can cause premature birth in pregnant women. the bacteria that cause gingivitis penetrates through the weak gum tissue and becomes blood borne. studies have shown this blood bone bacteria causes premature and low birth weight in pregnant women. due to the high hormone levels durning pregnancy, women are prone to developing an infection in their mourths. to prevent this infection, pregnant women should brush 3 times and floss twice daily. dental cleanings and exams without xrays are recommended every 3 months durning the term of pregnancy.
