Dental Hygiene

The state of one's oral health, resulting from this practice or its neglect. Also called oral hygiene is the practice of keeping your mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease, maintained by regular brushing , flossing and visits to the dentist. Dental hygienists remove soft and hard deposits from teeth, teach patients how to practice good oral hygiene, and provide other preventive dental care. They examine patients' teeth and gums, recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities. Generally, dentists recommend that teeth be cleaned professionally at least twice per year. Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling, tooth polishing, and, if too much tartar has built up, debridement. This is usually followed by a fluoride treatment.
