Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Wisdom teeth usually appear in the teenage years or early twenties. Approximately 35% of people do not develop wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth could present potential problems when they are misaligned. They can position themselves horizontally, be angled toward or away from the second molars or be angled inward or outward. Poor alignment can crowd or damage adjacent teeth, the jawbone, or nerves. Wisdom teeth could affect other teeth as they become impacted (coming in sideways). Extraction is a common choice when this occurs.  Wisdom teeth could become problematic if not extracted. Common symptoms include bleeding and oozing, dry socket, swelling, bad taste or odor and redness of the gum around the erupted tooth - Difficulty opening the mouth, pain in the general area which may also run down the entire lower jaw and possibly the neck. Untreated infection (Pericoronitis) can progress to much more severe infections causing great discomfort.
